
I also thought there may be small holes that are plugged and maybe a pin would dislodge what ever is plugging the fill valve, but I cannot see where to stick the pin. I thought I could put it in solvent, but I am not sure want solvent would be correct to use. My only guess is that the fill valve is somehow plugged, but I can not see any way to unplug it. When I put butane in the removed valve, it does not do anything and you would think that the fuel would go straight through. The fill removed fill valve I can see the the plunger on the bottom of the valve does go in an out on the end of the valve so guessing can purge if there was something to purge-the fuel membrane inside the lighter looks fine. The O rings on are all soft and not broken.

I was able to blow through and the air does go all the way through. The removed adjustment valve appears that the chamber is clear to from top to bottom. The problem is when I try to refill with butane, it does not fill. I have taken it apart by removing and replacing the pressure value and the adjustment valve. I am looking forward to giving this “new” lighter a try to see how it works and if it is one that I will use or if it is one that will be sold off to finance a new one.I have a 50+ year Colibri lighter in very good condition. The ease with which it can be lit makes it a pleasure to use. It is a very light weight piece that is thin enough to fit in my pocket or my pipe case with no trouble. The lighter includes a tamper in the bottom that can be extended to tamp down the tobacco. I adjust the fill tube so that it did not stick open and allow the butane to escape.

Using the manual I adjusted the flame on the lighter to extend it further from the lighter and enable me to use it in lighting my pipe. While none of the drawings are the lighter I have the adjustments are nonetheless present in the photos.

I had no idea how to adjust the flame as there were not any instructions left in the box with the lighter. If your lighter fuse is less that 20 amps, try not to plug in any large accessories, like inverters or compressors. This will clear up in a day or so, if it happens. I was able to get a very small flame from the lighter but it did not extend far enough away from the lighter to light a pipe. Find and replace the lighter fuse using your manual. There was a slight hissing that came from the filling tube on the bottom of the lighter so I used a small tipped screwdriver to adjust that valve. I filled it with Colibri Butane and pulled the slide down to see if I could get a flame. Sliding the bar downward ignites the butane.


There is not a flint in the lighter and no spark wheel. The top 2/3 of the slide is grooved so that it is easy to move downward. There is no wheel that is struck to light the flame, rather the bar shown on the right side of the photo above is slid downward and the flame ignites. It can easily be adjusted to not damage the bowl of a pipe. The flame comes out on the side of the lighter and is a soft torch flame. It has a brushed steel finish on both sides and the edges are polished stainless. This week I was looking for a pipe I had put in my desk and though I did not find the pipe I did find the lighter and took it out and had a look at it. I had not given it a thought or even filled it or tried it out. All air should be removed from gas tank in order to refill to maximum capacity.
